Synopsis: The feature was exactly started on Tuesday which allowed the Instagram users to attach a donate button on their reels and turn their short videos or reels into fundraisers. Currently, this fundraising reel option is available in more than 30 countries in the world and the company is also assured that it will support 1.5 million or more non-profit donations. 

Meta Platforms Inc. which includes the social media giants Facebook and Instagram is adding the ability to the respective platforms for the users where they can create a fundraiser or donate directly through reels or videos. The company announced this feature along with a number of updates all over Meta’s platform and service which they have specially designed to celebrate Earth Day. Apart from this special feature they have also included numerous stickers for Messenger, profile frames for Facebook, Instagram, conservation-focused experiences for VR, and many more things. 

The feature was exactly started on Tuesday which allowed the Instagram users to attach a donate button on their reels and turn their short videos or reels into fundraisers. Currently, this fundraising reel option is available in more than 30 countries in the world and the company is also assured that it will support 1.5 million or more non-profit donations. However, a few of the very popular users including, Zyahna Bryant, Dave Burd, and Maggie Baird have already used this feature as a fundraiser for environmental causes. 

This feature has also benefited Meta’s Earth Day initiative as many people have donated to support this environmental cause. According to the data given by Meta around 4 million people have donated over $150 million through Facebook and Instagram in order to support nonprofits, which are fighting against climate change and protecting the environment. Based on the overall number of donors, the most popular environmental cause for which a huge number of people donated are, Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, The Ocean Cleanup, and the World Wildlife Fund. 

According to Emily Dalton Smith, Meta’s vice president of product management and social impact since 2015, more than $6 billion has been donated by people on Instagram and Facebook. Although, in the past nine months of the year 2021 donations have jumped by $1 billion, with about 100 million creators and donors starting to take part in the fundraising. Also, according to Dalton Smith, 

It’s just lots of people coming together and giving whatever they can to causes.

It has also been noted by Meta that its Climate Science Center which is an in-app hub, is available in more than 150 countries and has recorded around 200 million visits since its launch in September 2020. 

However, apart from this, Instagram was also working on several updates, and the most awaited one included a chronological feed. This was one of the most wanted features of Instagram and came back after 5 years. As per the Chronological mode, people will be able to see their favorite feeds and customize them accordingly.
