The capital of Pakistan is Islamabad located in the northwest of the country on the Potohar Plateau. 

After the partition of India into two countries, India and Pakistan, Karachi was chosen as the capital of the newly established Pakistan. The History of Islamabad:

Karachi was the first capital of Pakistan. Islamabad is the current capital of Pakistan which was built between 1960 – 1970 to replace Karachi as the capital. President Ayub Khan gives the idea of the national capital of Islamabad (1907–1974). 

The capital of Pakistan was shifted from Karachi to Islamabad because Islamabad was in the center of the country. 20 years after the country’s independence, Islamabad officially became the capital of Pakistan on 14 August 1967. Konstantinos Apostolos Doxiadis designed the plan for the city which was triangular.

Islamabad is an Islamic city that means the City of Islam. It is derived from two words, 'Islam' and 'abad'. Islam refers to the religion of Islam, and abad is a Persian suffix meaning cultivated place. Many people including Zahiruddin Babur, Genghis Khan, Taimur, and Ahmad Shah Durrani used the corridor through Islamabad on their way to invade the rest of the Indian Subcontinent. Modern Islamabad is based on the old structure of Saidpur. The British army took control of the region from the Sikhs in 1849 and established South Asia's largest cantonment in the region.
