Robert Downey Jr – Early Life

Robert had a very disturbed childhood where he was introduced to drugs by his own father. His complete childhood was surrounded by drugs as his father was very much addicted to them and gave his son Marijuana which made Robert Downey Jr. a drug addict in long run. Although it was a wrong habit, both father and son stuck to it as it became a way of bonding and a father’s way to express love for his son. This went on for a very long time until his parents got divorced and he moved to California with his father. However, he did not live there for a very long time and dropped out of high school, and returned to New York in order to pursue his acting career. 

Robert Downey Jr – Starting of Career

Robert Downey Jr did various supporting roles in numerous movies and some of them were Weird Science which came in the year 1985, then “Led to a Stint” and a television comedy sketch show, “Saturday Night Live”  within the years 1985-86. His performance was very much liked by the audience in all the above-mentioned shows, which made him grab a lead role in the romantic comedy The Pick-up Artist (1987). 

After this also the actor continued on doing numerous movies but got recognition in the year 1992, with Richard Attenborough’s movie Charlie Chaplin, a biopic on the life of the legendary comedian. This movie earned him a lot of applause and also a nomination for Best Actor at the Oscars

Although, his addiction to drugs was a major drawback in his career and personal life as well. Robert had to serve 5 years of jail and rehab center in California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison due to his addition of drugs. But after his release from prison in the year 2000 the actor decided to completely focus on his career and leave his past behind. 

Robert Downey Jr – Comeback and Heights in Career

After his early release from prison in the year 2000, Robert Downey Jr. again started working in TV and won Golden Globe Award for the television series Ally McBeal. But at that time also he was a bit involved in drugs till the year 2002 and was arrested numerous times. However, in 2003 he decided to change his life and focus on his career and did 13 films in the next five years. It was a remarkable time for him as he did amazing movies including, Singing Detective, Good Night and Good Luck, A Scanner Darkly, and Zodiac, respectively in the years 2003, 2005, and 2007. 

By this time Downey has gained a huge popularity and fan following but the year 2008 was time changing as this year he got the most popular roles of his life, Iron Man as a superhero in the Avengers series and Tropic Thunder. For the latter, he also received an Acadamy nomination for best-supporting actor. After that, there was no stopping, and emerged as one of Hollywood’s most bankable actors, and his amazing role as Tony Stark made him everyone’s favorite. Apart from the Avengers series he did many fantastic movies including Due Date, The Judge, Dolittle, Chef, Tropic Thunder, Sherlock Holmes, and many more.
